It seems like the makeup isles and fashion magazines will have us believe that beauty can only be achieved through expensive foundation and ultra-black eyeliners. Makeup is great if you like wearing it. There’s no shame in enhancing your features with blush or lipstick. Makeup is, however, a shortcut to beauty. If you want beauty that really lasts and that you don’t need to reapply every morning, you should simply try to rearrange your diet.

These superfoods work with your natural beauty to enhance it and make you look younger. You’ll be shocked at the difference you see in your skin, hair, and even your eyes! And what’s more? These superfoods are some of the best and most delicious out there so trying to eat them won’t be a chore. It’s time to stop spending fortunes on makeup every month. By living healthy, we can look our most beautiful.

Green or Herbal Tea

Green teas are packed full of healthy antioxidants, which for so many reasons are great for you. Over time, antioxidants can smooth out your wrinkling skin and even keep you free of other health risks like cancer. Antioxidants perform miracles such as these by stopping molecules called free radicals. Free radicals are molecules that aren’t fully formed and because of this, they have the ability to impair the function of other hard-working cells in your body. Free radicals can cause a lot of harm inside and out which is a great excuse to treat yourself to a delicious cup of herbal or green tea after work.

Flaxseed Oil or Flaxseeds

No beauty routine is complete without some omega-3 fatty acids, which judging from their name sound like the exact opposite of something we want. But trust me, the omega-3s are where it’s at. Aside from being anti-inflammatories, they can prevent acne and other skin conditions. You can find these in flaxseeds if your happy munching away, but if, like me, you do not want to feel like a bird, then you can go straight for the oil. If you’re feeling adventurous, mix it into your oatmeal or your healthy morning shake or smoothie. It doesn’t have much of a taste, just a mild nuttiness. If you don’t like the oil for whatever reasons, capsules are available at the health food store.

Tomatoes

It is surprising how much I hear people say they don’t really like tomatoes and yet there they go, eating tomato sauce on pizza and on pasta. They even put ketchup all over their burgers and fries. And cooked diced tomatoes add a little bit of freshness and a bite to any dish, so what’s not to love? Raw tomatoes are delicious, but if you want to absorb this awesome fruit’s anti-aging antioxidant, then cooked is the way to go! Even if whole tomatoes aren’t your thing, there are plenty of ways to get your fill of this superfood. Who honestly doesn’t wish that pasta night was every night?

Cinnamon

Who doesn’t love cinnamon? There’s something so homey about it. My mother used to put a pot of water on the stove in the fall with a couple sticks of cinnamon and let it simmer until the whole house smelt delicious. And aside from making your mouth water, cinnamon is actually a superfood too! It increases metabolism, so don’t be afraid to indulge. Unfortunately, it does matter what you indulge in as a lot of cinnamon-centric foods are calorie bombs, but there a few nice recipes, such as cinnamon backed apples, that will leave you full and satisfied. Additionally, cinnamon mixed with honey is a super sweet scrub that will plump up and smooth out your lips.

Dark Chocolate

And the darker the better. Chocolate is everyone’s best friend. Even when the whole world is against you, your stash of chocolate is there and now you don’t have to feel guilty about eating it. Dark chocolate (anything with more than 60 percent cacao) keeps your skin from getting dry while protecting you from the sun. And all those rumors about chocolate ruining your skin and causing breakouts? Those were lies designed to keep you away from your beloved.

Coffee

I mean, you’re drinking it anyway. So, the good news is it’s not bad for you. It’s actually so especially “not bad”¬Ě that scientists are saying that those who drink coffee are less likely to develop cancer, especially skin cancer, than those who don’t. And for those of you who say it can’t be a huge difference, it’s 20 percent which means that me and my tea-drinking bum better get started brewing some coffee. If you drank a cup this morning, you’re already prettier than I am.

Lentils

Lentils are some terribly underappreciated legumes. If you’ve never heard of these little cuties, they’re tiny, nearly bean-like and great for soups and stews. If you’re looking for some bite in a stew, lentils have got your back and they come in an assortment of colors. These fancy legumes are packed with protein and iron, the building blocks for strong, healthy and radiant hair. So, if you didn’t know before, lentils are like your personal hairstylist. You heard it here first.

Health Food

That’s right, beauty is that easy. Throw away your leave-in conditioner and buy yourself some flax-seed oil. Superfoods are great for you, they safeguard your health, and keep you looking fresh and beautiful. The added benefit of it all? You get to eat some delicious food!
